Your Mission at SSCiEX

Support SSCiEX staff in delivering educational experiences, engaging visitors, and keeping daily operations running smoothly. You're helping spark curiosity in science, technology, engineering, and math for kids, families, school groups and public.

Volunteer Requirements

Age 18 years old and above.
Comfortable standing/walking for 4-8 hours.
May be required to lift items weighing between 10–20 kg during program setup.
Background check required if working with children.
Must comply with SSCiEX policies regarding dress code, safety, and visitor standards.

No science degree required—we train you!

Skills

Enthusiasm for science and learning, good communication, patience with kids, reliability and punctuality.

Training

Orientation and exhibit-related training provided. On-the-job training will be provided once you pass the interview.

Commitment

Required to fulfill the roster once your name is in the schedule. You are obligated to complete all assigned tasks.

Common Responsibilities

Visitor Engagement & Education

• Gallery Guide & Explainer : Station yourself in exhibits halls to demo hands-on activities, answer questions, and explain scientific concepts in plain language.
• Facilities Activities : Run activities with live science demos, maker-space projects, lab experiments, or craft stations tied to current exhibits.
• Operation Support : Welcome school groups, help with crowd flow, and assist with workshops or lab activities.
• Customer Service Aid : Welcome all visitors, register and distribute tickets, share general information about SSCiEX, assist the visitors needs and guide the visitors to respective.

Behind the Scenes Support

• Exhibit Maintenance Report : Reset interactive displays, restock materials, and report broken elements to staff.
• Collections & Curatorial : Help survey handover and collections, prep materials for programs, or assist with artifact handling under staff supervision.
• Office/Admin : Data entry, filing, prepping materials, or helping with necessary tasks.

Special Events & Programs

• Event Assistant : Support after-hours events, science nights, STEM camps, or school visits.
